David has over thirty-five years’ experience in international business development, venture capital, fund management and operations, with thirty of these years in Asia.
He served as a senior diplomat for Canada in Korea, Japan and Singapore, as Chair of the Interdepartmental APEC Committee to coordinate Canada’s participation in APEC, as Canada’s representative to the APEC Budget and Administration Committee and as Canadian Deputy Chair of the APEC Economic Committee. He was responsible for organizing three Prime Ministerial APEC Leaders Meetings: Seattle, Bogor and Osaka. He has extensive experience in trade negotiations, including serving as Canadian Chair to the Trilateral Committee on Forest Products with Japan and the U.S..
Leaving his Foreign Service career mid-stream for family reasons, he has since held senior management and Board positions in hi-tech, investment and fund management companies, including: Senior Vice President (ICT) and Board member of Transpac Capital, one of Asia’s oldest VC’s, with USD1Billion under management; as COO on the founding management team of MerLion Pharmaceuticals Pte Ltd, a Singapore-based drug discovery company; as partner in Upstream Ventures, a Singapore-based European family fund, and as Executive Director and COO of Zecotek Photonics Ltd, a TSX-listed Canadian photonics company. He was an investor and co-founder of the Canadian software company Greenbook, one of the first hypertext authoring tools for the Internet, later acquired by a U.S. company.
He presently leads Greentech Asia Pte Ltd, a consulting company specializing in market entry to Asian markets, and as President and CEO of Inuktun Asia Pte Ltd, the exclusive distributor for ASEAN, Korea and Taiwan of Inuktun Services Ltd industrial robotic inspection systems, as non-Executive Director of XentiQ Partners, a Singapore-based medical device design and development company, and Director on Upstream Ventures, an early stage venture fund.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada and a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, with post-graduate studies at Carleton’s Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (MA Int’l Relations w/t), and INSEAD.He has served on the Executive Committee of the Singapore Venture Capital Association, the Executive Council of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore, was a founding member of the Executive Council of the Singapore Biotech Association. He is a prsently servig as VP of member of the Canada Singapore Business Association, and is a member of the Tanglin Club and the Singapore Island Country Club.
